Overview

Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honours) in Acting for Global Screen is a unique, international, interdisciplinary “state-of-the-art” Bachelor of Fine Arts programme in acting, which combines acting training and performance studies, technology understanding and contemporary cultural reflection in its curriculum. It aims to be the most competitive undergraduate programme in acting performance, with cross-cultural and global enrichments that meet the needs of stage acting, acting with media technology and acting for screen in film industries for both local and non-local students.

Admission

Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honours) in Acting for Global Screen adopts programme-based admission. Our target students are local, non-local and international students.

All eligible JUPAS applicants should submit their application via JUPAS's website at http://www.jupas.edu.hk/en/

Direct (Non-JUPAS) applicants should submit their application via Academic Registry's website at https://iss.hkbu.edu.hk/amsappl_nj/

Mainland (attending current JEE) applicants should submit their application via Academy Registry at https://iss14.hkbu.edu.hk/ugmlams/application/

Interested candidates should apply for Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honours) in Acting for Global Screen via JUPAS, Non-JUPAS, Mainland JEE route from Year 1. Subsequently, applicants will be invited by email to submit their portfolios. All portfolios from eligible applicants will be reviewed by admission panels. Only shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend Audition and Interview.

Admission Criteria

For Hong Kong students taking HKDSE for admission via JUPAS, the Entrance Requirements are:

Note:

One of the electives must be any Category A subjects (excluding Extended Part of Mathematics (Module 1 or Module 2));
The other elective can be any of the following subjects:

a) Category A subjects (including Extended Part of Mathematics (Module 1 or Module 2));

b) Category B (Applied Learning) subjects with "Attained with Distinction (I)" or above;

c) Category C (Other Language) subjects (Minimum requirements and score conversion scales can be found at: http://admissions.hkbu.edu.hk/ug/jupas_requirement)

Other Entrance Requirements
  • High choice banding in JUPAS application is preferred;
  • Good results in English Language are preferred.
  • If the submission of portfolio is missing, the application will not be further processed.
  • Two rounds of interview and audition are requested for shortlisted applicants.
Academic Score Calculation

This programme considers the best 5 HKDSE subjects in Academic Score calculation.

Applicants holding qualifications other than Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) may submit their applications via the Direct (Non-JUPAS) Admissions Scheme. For details, please visit: http://admissions.hkbu.edu.hk/en/.

The admission requirement for NJ applicants will follow University’s general requirement with English requirement at an overall band 6.0 or above in IELTS Academic Test or equivalent.

Applicants attending the current year National Joint College Entrance Examination (JEE) of the Mainland may submit their applications via the Mainland JEE Admissions Scheme. For details, please visit: https://admission.hkbu.edu.hk/ug/mainland

The admission requirement for Mainland JEE applicants will follow University’s general requirement with English requirement at an overall band 6.0 or above in IELTS Academic Test (or with JEE English score 110). 

Portfolio Submission

Interested candidates should apply for Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honours) in Acting for Global Screen (AGS) via JUPAS or Non-JUPAS route from Year 1. Subsequently, applicants will be invited by email to submit their portfolios. All portfolios from eligible applicants will be reviewed by admission panels. Only shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend Audition/Interview.

All portfolio submissions should be completed according to the deadline stated in the invitation email. Invitation of Portfolio Submission will be sent to the email address provided at the time of application. Please ensure the email information provided is correct. Late submission of portfolio will not be reviewed. If any requested item(s) stated in AGS Portfolio Specification is/are missing, the submission will be regarded as unsuccessful. 

A recognized portfolio should include the following documents in digital format:

  1. One performance resume
  2. Two filmed audition speeches from a contemporary film, television series or stage play, which are after the year of 1960. The two speeches should contrast each other.
  3. One current headshot photo

Scholarship & Bursary

Mr. Chan Chee Kheong Memorial Scholarship 陳自強紀念獎學金
Descriptions/Eligibility:A full-time Year 2 undergraduate student of Bachelor of Fine Arts (Hons) in Acting for Global Screen Programme of Academy of Film with the highest cumulative Grade Point Average (cGPA), which is of 3.0 or above.

Professor Eva Man Scholarship 文潔華教授獎學金
Descriptions/Eligibility:A full-time Year 3 undergraduate student of Bachelor of Fine Arts (Hons) in Acting for Global Screen Programme of Academy of Film with the high cumulative Grade Point Average (cGPA), which is of 3.0 or above. Priority is given to students who have financial difficulties.
