  IDEA

i stands for ‘ideas’. studio i is a unique platform designed to inspire and showcase students' creativity

i also stands for ‘incubator’. studio i is an incubator with the mission to identify and nurture creative talent and provide students with industry-standard training in film-production.

Set up in 2014, the studio empowers students and recent graduates to commence work on their first project and facilitate their progress in entering the industry. They are expected to write, produce, direct and edit his or her own original films and to learn the ins and outs of operating a camera and running a film set. As an incubator of the young generation of creative talent, the studio envisions itself as a platform in brining the School and the industry together to enable a synergy of the two communities. Professional practitioners would be invited to the campus to mentor our students and to solidify our industrial relationship.

studio i will provide the students involved in these projects with financial support and access to film-production infrastructure and state-of-the-art equipment. Notably, students will also be mentored by veteran film professionals.

  INITIATIVES

Feature Film Project and Micro-film Project

Running from 2014 to 2017, the projects offer students and recent graduates of the Academy the chance to transform their original ideas into scripts and ultimately onto the big screen. Participants will gain first-hand experience of large-scale film production and exhibition.

The plan is for the Studio to seek original ideas for film projects though open call. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to develop their ideas into full scripts for the production of one feature film and two micro films. The Feature Film Project aims at producing a work for commercial release, while the Micro-film Project targeting works of artistic and experimental nature to be screened at film festivals.

In 2015, the Studio received over 200 ideas for the projects.
