Love in the Time of a Quiet Earth Short Mobile Phone Film and Animation Competition (For Secondary and Post-Secondary Schools)
With the deadly COVID-19 dominating global headlines for months, inhabitants of Hong Kong are forced to absorb unprecedented changes. Border closure, suspension of public entertainment, work from home, online meetings, and mandatory self-quarantine become the new tropes that redefine the life of a famously robust city. Yet in such times of risk, people gain heightened consciousness for the importance of health and family while seeking social solidarity and support in fighting with the contagion. The phenomenon readily engenders a novel set of sentiments marked by anxiety and depression intermingling with love and concern, contentment and faith, which are worth-recording and sharing.
Organized by the Academy of Film at Hong Kong Baptist University, the “Love in the Time of a Quiet Earth” short mobile phone film and animation competition invites Hong Kong’s secondary and post-secondary school students to come up with creative expressions that register and reflect their thoughts, emotions, and observations regarding the coronavirus threat. The submissions for the competition can also serve as valuable sources of responses of the local student communities to the social and public health crises.
